nothing like tragedy to bring everyone together. or polarize an entire nation. who knows. 2004-11-05 @ 12:49 a.m.

it's been a somber couple of days here in mary ward hall.

election coverage (or mourning) has been blasting out of all the television sets, and doors are shut as people lie in their beds prepared to give up the good fight.

tears were shed, hatred flew, people were arrested at peace rallies for assault with deadly weapons, it's been nuts.

i witnessed a very interesting display of passion on wednesday in the middle of sfsu's quad. a handful of bush/cheney supporters, probably the college republicans (a near-extinct breed here in the most liberal city in California, if not the entire west coast) were standing in a pack surrounded by police officers blaring campaign paraphernalia and smug grins. within minutes, a swarm of 100-200 angry liberals came marching from the other side of campus, chanting and holding signs and being all-around leering and omenous. tensions rose as them crazy leftists surrounded the republican kids and chanted and danced and spit and yelled in faces, etc. of course we, the innocent bystanders, rushed over to witness from up close. chanting, dancing, and general debauchery continued for about 20 minutes until the cops told the republican kids, who had little to no response to the crowd's cheers, to disperse for their own safety's sake. i love this fucking city.

that doesn't mean i didn't need 15 hours of sleep last night to recover from my misery.

it also doesn't mean i didn't spend all of tuesday night cleaning up democratic puke from one of my forlorn friends, lost in the abyss of the thought of a three branch republican majority.

we're all fucking doomed.

favorite onion quotes as of tuesday:
"God puts his tool back in office."
"Bush does victory lap around World Trade Center site."
"Poll: Youth totally meant to vote in record numbers."
